Name: Nikolai Bondevik
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Year: 6
Lineage: Pureblood
House: Ravenclaw, Slytherin
Subjects: Potions
Transfiguration
History of Magic
Charms
Study of Ancient Runes
Ancient Studies
Apparation
Appearance:
Hair: Nikolai has very pale blonde hair that is usually straight, though it starts to curl at the ends in high humidity. He keeps it cut fairly short - never past his chin at its longest, though he prefers it shorter. His fringe does tend to hang in his eyes, but it doesn’t bother him unless he’s studying. He usually clips them back with an ornate goblin-made silver cross pin that has been passed down through his family for generations (it normally only goes to the women, but he’s an only child). He also has one errant strand of hair in the back of his head that always sticks out, much to his irritation. In the right lighting, it appears to be floating.
Eyes: an unusual shade of lighter blue rimmed by darker blue. They start to turn gold in the middle when exposed to bright light.
Body: Nikolai is tall, slim, and rather delicate looking. He appears to be quite weak, but in reality could easily destroy someone in a physical fight (though that’s rather beneath him). He is also very, very pale, as he doesn’t much care for being outside (unless it’s raining).
Height: 5’11’’
Clothing: He is very clean cut and stylish. He chooses more often than not to wear the school uniform over everyday clothes; though when he does wear normal clothes, it’s usually a custom-made suit, with the jacket and tie optional. He prefers not to wear them at school, though, considering all the hazards that come with living at a school for magic. If he does choose to wear more casual clothing, it will always be a designer brand of some sort.
Pet: A Snowy Owl named Freya, and a large pack of faeries that his family sometimes uses for decorations. His family also has a house elf named Karle.
Personality: Nikolai is very quiet, preferring the company of books and animals to that of other people, and is very shy around people he doesn’t know. However, once someone makes friends with him, he’s very loyal and protective of that friendship. He’s actually quite willing to make friends with just about anyone, regardless of blood status.
He does not show his emotions well at all, which makes him appear bored nearly all the time. The only time they really make an appearance is when he is feeling the very extreme of that emotion. In fact, he tends to be very sarcastic and critical of everything around him due to his upbringing. This makes him appear to be a lot harsher and colder than he actually is.
He’s a little bit mischievous, and likes to pull small pranks on people, especially for revenge. No one ever suspects that it’s him, though, because he’s so quiet and well behaved. He isn’t very easily angered, but he is very easily annoyed. He especially hates loud, obnoxious people, as they tend to interrupt his train of thought. He is very cunning and sly, bordering upon manipulative at times. He strongly dislikes not getting his way, and will do nearly anything to prevent that from happening.
He doesn’t much care about rules, but follows them anyway - mostly because breaking them leads to tedious punishment.
Although he’s a pureblood, Nikolai doesn’t really care about blood status. A person’s a person, in his opinion, and how much magic someone has in their blood doesn’t determine what they act like. He actually quite enjoys Muggle music and entertainment, but doesn’t say anything for fear of being made fun of by other purebloods.
He’s completely addicted to coffee, and actually suffers headaches from caffeine deprivation if he doesn’t get enough of it. Come in between him and his coffee, and he will not hesitate to send you to the hospital wing.
He quite excels in any subject involving spellcasting, as it comes as easily as breathing to him. This is the only reason he continues to take Charms and Transfiguration, because he would hate to give them up when it feels so right to him. He still takes Potions because the preciseness of it soothes him.
He studies almost every day for at least an hour per subject, but allows himself to have short breaks so that he doesn’t stress himself out. He hates procrastinating, and has to have all his supplies and books in a certain way before he can start any project (this usually involves setting up a fort made of his textbooks and schoolbag). He commandeered a table in the common room during his third year, and will not hesitate to hex anyone who attempts to take it. He likes to read stories from different cultures for fun. Muggle Norse Mythology, any sort of faerietale, and so-called ‘Fantasy’ books are his favorites to him, though he is willing to branch out.
He absolutely loves to read. If he had it his way, he would have no dorm mates, and just have his own private library.
All of his things have to be organized in a certain way before he can function properly. His clothes have to be folded just so, and they must be organized by type and color. His books must be sorted by genre, and by alphabetical order by author’s last name within that. His mother does not approve of disorganization, and has passed that onto her son in spades.
Dreams: He plans on becoming a wizarding historian, specializing in Ancient magic (specifically Norse). If that fails, he plans on becoming a history or potions professor.
Other things: He’s absolutely awful at Quidditch – and flying in general. He would much rather stay on the ground. He does enjoy watching it, though.
Sample Post:
Nikolai sighed nervously, drumming his fingers on the window frame as he stared out onto the grounds of his family’s summer home, lightning flashing in the sky. Of all the days for Freya to have gone out hunting, it would have to be today, he thought anxiously, shifting to lean on the wall. His eyes searched the skyline for any sort of movement, finally fixating on a small point that, as it got closer, clearly became his owl.
He quickly opened the window, stepping aside to let a very soaked Freya to soar through, landing on his bed. He carefully picked her up, sputtering as she shook the water out of her feathers all over him. “There you are, silly girl,” he said, a faint trace of relief sneaking its way into his voice as he gently stroked her head with two fingers. “Did you have a good hunt?” Freya hooted quietly, leaving Nikolai to believe that she hadn’t. “All right. Let’s go see if Karle has anything for you down in the kitchens.”
He quickly headed down the stairs, balancing Freya on his arm and attempting to be as quiet as possible.
“Nikolai?” his mother called out to him from the drawing room.
“Just a second, Mother!” he called back, running into the kitchen and depositing Freya on the nearest counter. “I’ll be right back, girl, we’ll get you something to eat then,” he told her, quickly making his way into the drawing room.
“Nikolai, what’s taking you so long?”
“I’ll be right there!” he said, rushing into the drawing room, skidding across the wood floor in his socks. He stumbled into the drawing room, slightly out of breath.
“Sweet Merlin, boy, what on earth have you been doing? You look a mess,” she scolded, looking over at him from her desk.
He looked down briefly at his shirt, which was indeed a mess of water and owl feathers. “Sorry. Freya just flew in, and I was taking her to the kitchen to get her some mice. Her hunt didn’t go very well.”
“Well, your father dropped this off for you earlier,” she informed him, handing him a heavy parchment envelope, addressed to him in green ink.
His Hogwarts letter.
“Thank you, Mother,” he said, backing out and running upstairs to throw it on his bed, and then back down to the kitchen to make sure that Karle wasn’t stuffing Freya full of more than just mice.
