Appearance:
It had to be said that Arthur was usually neither striking in appearance nor unsettling; he has points about him that were oddly fascinating and perhaps even beautiful and on the flip-side he has aspects that are quite perturbing indeed. On one extreme, Arthur has peridot green eyes – the sort that jump out at you and sparkle emotively with life, often speaking more words than his mouth ever could. Then on the other, there are dark and thick brows adhering atop them; their combined impact balancing each other out.
His face consists of a softly sloped jaw-line and relatively high cheek bone arches, along with a pointier nose than most and an expression that often makes him look naturally unimpressed. The skin he has is more or less pale, but with a spot of a rosy complexion. All of this is topped off with a thick head of blond hair, colour of sand.
Body-wise, Arthur is reasonably slim bodied. His robes certainly do not warp around his body, though neither do they hang limply from his bones. He’s a healthy weight, perhaps a little on the lighter side, and maintains an average height of about 5’ 8”.
Modernly speaking, Arthur’s not very fashionable at all; had he been born in the 1920s to 1930s, he would most definitely have been in with the trends. His clothing sense is rather outdated, preferring to wear stuffy jumpers and vests underneath his robes and especially so on a trip out to Hogmeade or on those more casual days. Uniform-wise, Arthur’s tie is always fastened properly as standard and his robes are always very well taken care of. He tends to wear black boots going up past his ankles underneath – of which are commonly self-polished.
Pet: Arthur has a screech owl called Rigby, named after the muggle Beatles song ‘Eleanor Rigby’ that despite being a pure-blood, Arthur had taken an interest in. Although Arthur was instructed to contact his older brothers using the owl, it had gotten rather fat over the years from mal-use.
Personality: Arthur Kirkland is a bit of a difficult character when it comes to his personality. From a very young age, Arthur had been a stubborn individual; he likes following the rules to the last word in the book, so much so that it can be a burden on others sometimes. Though not particularly always correct, Arthur is very persistent in thinking that his way around a problem is right – even if it may contest others, even his teachers. He likes coming up with his own solutions and then tooting his horn about it, despite often proving slower than other students to achieve a required objective.
Arthur naturally has quite an affinity with magic – particularly in charms and transfiguration, although he has been known to create a very strong potion in his time. Along with this, Arthur is very quick to befriend magical creatures. Although, while his spells tend to be remarkably strong, they do quite often go wrong; with some practice throughout the years, he could blossom into a very powerful wizard, though he is not necessarily going to listen to reason.
While he does respect and takes others into account, Arthur prefers warping their instructions into a suggestion for what he should do instead. In this aspect, he is very proud and self-righteous; although not to the point of bragging about his efforts. He is prone to cracking, however, when under intense pressure.
With other people, Arthur is rather socially awkward. He can hold a polite conversation and enjoy it, slightly, but he finds it hard to go any further with a person. Small talk is his specialty, and delving any further makes Arthur almost immediately defensive. Arthur often complains about his brothers and their ill relationship but no one quite knows why, for instance. He also is very particular about his manners; always pleases and thank yous when eating, and holding the door open for his female equivalents.
There have been many times in which Arthur has been cold to other students and even teachers – mainly when Arthur’s temper plays up. He is not often full of cheer, as if a rain cloud likes stalking him everywhere. He does not take kindly to being mistreated - and ‘mistreated’, in Arthur’s opinion, covers a lot of actions. Arthur is quick to lash out and act ‘in your face’. If you cross Arthur Kirkland, you are likely to know it – whether through direct confrontation or disapproving sneers.
Dreams: After graduating, it is expected of Arthur’s family for him to go into the Ministry of Magic. While he has some interest in being an Auror, like most of his peers, he is much more interested in the Department of Mysteries and the secret goings on behind the scenes.
Other things: Unlike most students, Arthur does not own a broom. He also thinks Quidditch is a silly and irresponsible sport – although it is suspected that this is only so because he crashed into a tree on his first flying lesson and had not improved since.
Sample Post:
As he laid with his back pressed firmly against one of the willow trees upon the school grounds, Arthur could not help but wonder what was annoying him more. Perhaps it was the fact that it had rained on him only a few minutes ago – bloody weather, mumble grumble – and got his book wet. Or perhaps it was the fact that there were other students about, laughing and having their jolly good time about their lives, when he was stuck studying. Nothing was more infuriating than being constantly interrupted when attempting to read through a book.
Attempting being a key word; yes, he was reading the pages. Technically, his eyes were scanning over the pages – but nothing, and he meant nothing was going through. He supposed he must have shorted out his brain. Would not be too surprised, considering how some dozy pillock spilt his carefully made cup of tea this morning at breakfast. Maybe he got out of the wrong side of the bed, which would not have surprised him either.
Being a fifth year was complicated, seeing as he was now about to go through his O.W.L.s this year. That was why seeing other people not studying made him bristle – it was like picking up the mud on the now marginally moist ground and smearing it all over his face. And no, he did not care what the muggle-born females tried to make out; mud on your face does not make it feel better, less tense, nor smoother. It annoyed him. A lot.
Long story cut short; Arthur frowned disapprovingly at them. When that failed to perturb them, he groaned loudly and pretended to get back to his book. Once that failed to persuade them away, Arthur shouted at them. ...When that failed to make an impact, the weather decided to open up and show its support.
Ten minutes later, Arthur was standing under cover, huffing and puffing as the pages in his book begun to disintegrate and wetness clung to his skin and made him even colder and crabbier than before. Brilliant. Ruddy, bloody, bloomin’ brilliant.
